Safe
A natural farmer grows food without using chemical fertilisers, tends to the soil and strengthens the symbiotic relationship between the soil, the plants, and the life below the earth. Every process, right from the preparation of the land, sowing to harvesting is done with minimal disturbance to the nature cycles. Food, thus, grown is not only garden fresh but also safe.
Sustainable
In natural farming there’s no use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides and insecticides. As a result there’s no pollution and the soil is better. Integrated farming, an important aspect of natural farming, ensures crop diversity, bolsters the eco system and improves groundwater table. Moreover, it’s the growers and us buyers who form the core in natural farming. It is sustainable.
Responsible
Just as growing healthy food and nurturing the soil is the responsibility of our farmers, we feel creating a space to sell naturally-grown produce is ours. We work closely with farmers who focus on soil and human health. We also grow at our own natural farms in Maddur, Doddabele (Kengeri) and Sulivara near Doddaladamara, Bangalore. Through Petrichor we promote produces from natural farms.

Petrichor, the store, is a place where we sell nourishing and fresh food – vegetables, fruits, grains, pulses, cereals, millets, spices, beans and also oils – grown and processed the natural way.
As the scent of the earth, when rain falls on the dry land, revives us, so does what we sell connects us to the land and its flavours.
‘Petrichor’ is our initiative to bring the organic farm produce direct from farmers to consumers.

Achieving it through holistic engagement

Realising that the surest way to improve the soil, groundwater table and combat climate change is natural farming, regenerative agriculture, agro-ecological farming, we have been closely working with many farmers and growing food in several farms through naturalist H Manjunath, whose work is guided by holistic design approaches to issues of agriculture and environment. Through the founding of the Gandhian School of Natural Farming, at a natural farm in Doddahosur, Tumkur, Manjunath has been successfully holding classes about natural farming and bringing people from diverse backgrounds, transcending gender, age, profession, into its ambit.
We intend to support our farmers through holistic design, documentation, package of practices and marketing of produce.
Petrichor is a step forward in that direction.

Indefatigable spirit pays
Raveesh never gave up on his poor farm. His indefatigable spirit led him to treat his soil wholly backed by science and design intervention. Today he is the proud owner of integrated multi-cropping areca nut and coconut orchards, the first of its kind in the village Doddahosur, Tumkur district.

Growing poison-free food
N Indiramma’s, a 65-year-old retired lecturer of, Chikkanayakanahalli, Tumkur district, greatest satisfaction comes from growing and selling poison-free food. No tilling, or use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides ensures non-violence at all levels of natural farming. For Indramma this is the strongest motivation to be a natural farmer.

‘Natural farming, a way of life’
For 51-year-old natural grower Naduru Kenchappa, Sira, natural farming is a way of life, a thought process and a philosophy. Natural farming is slow, process driven but long lasting, he says. “Agriculture is a penance. You have to listen to the language of the land and respond to it. Only then shall the earth yield.”

‘Chemical free food, a motivator’
The desire to grow and sell chemical-free food propelled us on a search. The journey finally led us to taking up farming on our one acre and 15 guntas of land near T Narasipura. Today we are happy to grow turmeric, bananas, drumstick, green chillies and many more the natural way.

Doddabele Farm
GoodEarth wanted to apply its understanding of natural farming into practice. So in 2021, it started growing at a 2.5 acre coconut orchard near Doddabele, Kengeri. There were a few coconut trees and the soil was poor.
In consultation with naturalist H Manjunath, more focus was on improving the soil. As per his holistic design principles, as many as 700 banana saplings were planted at the border of the land. Also 400 papaya and drumstick saplings each were planted. In tune with integrated farming design, turmeric, vegetables, greens, ladies finger, brinjal et al were grown.
Doddabele farm soon transformed into a learning plot.
Today, at the Doddabele farm, the bananas are lush green. Papaya, sumptuous and sweet, greens and other vegetables are harvested at regular intervals and sold. There’s poultry and fishery. At Doddabele farm, GoodEarth produces its own organic Desi vegetable seeds too.
